Calling All Water-Walkers...

How many times has God impressed you to do something, and you didn't do it?  How many times has He told you to talk to a person about Him or lay hands on someone, and you let the opportunity slip through your fingers?  How many times has He told you to give something to a certain individual, and you kept it?

And why did you?  Because you feared what someone might think.  You feared being wrong.  You feared failing.

I'm sure that's how Peter felt when he was in the boat that night.  The night he saw Jesus walking on the water.  The storm raged all around him.  His buddies, the disciples, probably whispered words of doubt and fear behind him.  However Peter tuned out all the distractions and focused on his Saviour, Jesus.

"Lord, if it be you, bid me to come," Peter urged Jesus.  His enthusiasm to please God overrode his thinking process.

"Come," Jesus replied.

Peter stepped out of the boat.  As long as he kept his eyes on Jesus, he steadily walked on the water toward His Savior.  When he turned his focus onto the wind and the events occurring around him, he started to sink.

Peter almost drowned, yes, but Peter, despite his fear, stepped out of the boat.  He tried something new.  He obeyed Jesus and walked on the water.  And for a while, he was doing it.

We need to be like Peter and determine that we will not let fear dictate how we feel or what we do.  We must make a determination that obeying God is more important than fear.

When we obey God,  we too begin our journey toward Jesus and His will in our lives.  When we give our fear and our circumstances and the "what if"s of life our focus, we will move in that direction and fall flat on our face.  Where your mind goes, your body will follow.

Will you be fearful or faithful?  Will you let fear control you?  Or your faith in God?  The choice is yours.
