Drowning In The Dead End

@ 09:13 AM (26 months, 18 days ago)

Give your burdens to the Lord, and he will take care of you. He will not permit the godly to slip and fall. - Psalm 55:22 (NLT).

For many years, I struggled. Even after I came back to God. I would do everything I thought I should to be spiritual. Reading my Bible. Praying. Attempting to love others and keeping the Ten Commandments. kept struggling. I was barely keeping myself physically, emotionally and financially afloat. I probably looked like a person splashing around in the deep end of the ocean when they are drowning. Head bobbing up and down.

At the time, I was fairly sick. Waiting in doctors’ offices had become commonplace for me. And every one had their own commentary on my sickness.

The assistant manager who worked with me at the restaurant in which I was employed told me, “You're sick because you are so skinny, right? You are anorexia, aren’t you?” I wasn’t.

Another well-meaning person in my church advised me that fasting was the only answer.

But the best advice was the advice God gave me——to cast my cares on Him for He will take care of me.

The implication here is that if we don’t cast our cares on Him, then He won’t take care of us.

I believe that this is why a lot of people struggle in their walk with the Lord. They are like me, panicking in the deep end of the ocean.

Instead we are supposed to allow God to help us in our struggles. It is when we are at our weakest that He is at His strongest. We have to let Him come in and take care of the situation, to rescue us in our troubles.

We do this by giving Him our cares by entrusting Him with them. Think of God as a bank. You cannot expect a bank to take care of your money unless you give it to them to hold.

God knows us better than we know ourselves. He created us. He knows us intricately. Wouldn’t He know how to care for us and tend to our needs better than we would? Put God in control of your life and see how He comes through on your behalf.

No Effect

And honour not his father or his mother, he shall be free. Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition. - Matthew 15:6 (KJV).

Our traditions will nullify the Word of God.  If we hold fast to our traditions and make it higher in our lives than the Word, we will cause the Word to be of no effect in our lives.

Put Others First

He riseth from supper, and laid aside his garments; and took a towel, and girded himself. After that he poureth water into a bason, and began to wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded. - John 13:4-5 (KJV).

How much do you serve others?  How many times do you seek out someone to serve?  How many times do you insist that people serve you?  How many times have you put yourself on a higher pedestal than those who are less fortunate or brokenhearted?  We need to put others before ourselves.

Seek To Serve

@ 09:27 AM (26 months, 22 days ago)

But so shall it not be among you: but whosoever will be great among you, shall be your minister: And whosoever of you will be the chiefest, shall be servant of all. For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many. - Mark 10: 43-35.

We need to be like Jesus. He served rather than demanding that people serve Him.  If any one could have demanded His own way, it would have been Him. We have to seek out people we can be a blessing to instead of demanding they serve us.

True Or False

@ 08:20 AM (26 months, 23 days ago)

Do not put out the Spirit's fire; do not treat prophecies with contempt. Test everything. Hold on to the good. - 1 Thessalonians 5:19-21 (NIV).

Today many people treat prophecies with contempt because they have met some prophets and prophetessess who were either false or using their gift for profit.  True prophets, though, such as Daniel, Nathan and Samuel, and prophetessess, such as Deborah, are Biblical.  We must learn to discern between the false and the true ones by seeking God.  Then we must heed the words of the true ones God has sent.

Let Him Take Care Of You

@ 09:31 AM (26 months, 25 days ago)

“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.- Psalm 23:1

I always thought of this as a nice little verse that starts Psalm 23.  A verse that seems to be standard for those who are sick or dying.  That is until I began to understand it.

What does a shepherd do?  He takes care of the sheep.  He watches them.  He leads them.

Just as a shepherd cares for his sheep, God, the Good Shepherd, cares for us.  He feeds us with His Word, with His revelation, with His wisdom.

He provides us with shelter. In fact according to Psalm 91, God is our shelter. We have to abide in Him because that is the Only place where we are guaranteed safety and where He will meet our needs.

If one of us leaves the flock, He goes after us.  He actively pursues the one until it returns to the flock.  He never stops looking for His lost sheep.

If we let Him, He will guide us and direct us to our destination.  He will lead us through the trouble, and He will teach us.

Most of us try to take care of the Shepherd--telling Him what to do, begging Him to do things our way, doing all kinds of good works in His Name that He didn’t ask us to.

If you watch a shepherd with his sheep, you never see a sheep trying to take care of the shepherd.  You see them, though, just like us, thinking they know it all and wandering from the flock.

We have to relinquish control of our lives to God. We must leave all our problems, all our situations, all our circumstances, in His capable hands.  We were never designed to care for God but Him for us.

We need to be like little sheep.  Dependent on our Shepherd for provision, for instruction, to lead us in the way we should go.  We must put down our lives and exchange our will for His.  He died for us.  Isn’t this the least we can do for Him?

Activation Needed!

@ 09:38 AM (27 months, 2 days ago)

His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. - 2 Peter 1:3 (NIV).

We already have everything we need. According to 2 Peter 1:3, we have everything we need for life and godliness.
I can just hear you saying, “If I have everything I need for life and godliness, then why am I living in poverty? Why am I sick? Why do I have neighbor trouble?”
This Scripture says that God’s divine power gives it to us. Through His divine power, we find two forces at work--love and grace.
It took love and grace to save us. God loved us so much that He sent His Son to die on the Cross for us, to be a substitute for our sins. Because of God’s love, He is merciful even when we don’t deserve it. He pours out His grace to save us, to heal us, to make a place for us in Heaven. All things we never deserved nor did we earn.
These two forces give us everything we need that pertain to life and godliness. Love and grace allowed Christ to go to the Cross. What Jesus did on the Cross affords us the opportunity to be Born-Again. And when we are, everything we need is deposited in us.
However, if we have everything we need in us, why are we sick? Why are we broke? Because we have not activated what we need.
We can have a computer in our house, but if we don’t know how to use it, the computer will sit on our desk, collecting dust.
We haven’t taken out the instruction manual and read through all the benefits we are entitled to in our salvation package.
We know we are saved. We know that we are redeemed from Hell, but we are content to live to survive rather than live to thrive.
We believe that it is selfish to live the abundant life that God promised us, but in order to be a blessing to others, we must first be blessed.

How do we activate what we already possess?

1 . Stand on the Word. Let’s say our relative leaves us fourteen million dollars. Unless we check the will, we won’t know we were entitled to that money. Second, if we don’t claim the inheritance, we will not receive it.
The same is true with God. We have to go to His Will, the Word of God, and see what He has given us. Then we must claim them by standing on them--quoting the Scripture, praying it, thinking about it.

2. Believe. We must believe that when we pray the Word of God that God has heard us and that He will answer. The Bible promises that if we pray according to God’s Will, God will hear us and do what we have asked. We have that assurance. We just have to believe.

3. Receive. People think that receiving is hard, hut the same way we received salvation is the same way we receive all the promises of God. We believe in our hearts and confess with our mouths. The key is to believe that we receive what we asked for.

We shouldn’t let anyone talk us out of what the Word says we have. It is God’s good pleasure to prosper us, to heal us, to deliver us. Every time. But we must claim the promises and believe that we receive them, then we shall have them. If we wait, never giving up, it will come if we keep steadfast to the promises.

Divide Your Investments

@ 09:02 AM (27 months, 4 days ago)
But divide your investments among many places, for you do not know what risks might lie ahead. - Ecclesiastes 11:1-2 (NLT)

The writer of
Ecclesiastes tells us here to divide our investments, our time, among many things.  Then if one thing fails, we will still have other interests.  Many of us invest our time into one project until we become defined by it.  For instance, if I put all my time and energy into writing, then I will identify myself as a writer.  Perhaps I might think that is all I am.  However, I should invest my time in a variety of other interests and develop other skills.  Then if writing falls through, I will always have something to fall back on.  In other words, we shouldn't put all our eggs in one basket.

God sustains us when we fall.  When we are starting out with the Lord, we are like babies.  We stumble.  As we practice our steps, as we gain experience in our walk with God, we fall less.  Falls will still happen as long as we are alive.  We must get up.  We have to keep walking.  God can only sustain us if we stay in the game, if we are willing to get up and walk again.

Our Weapons In Action

@ 08:57 AM (27 months, 7 days ago)

Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. - Ephesians 6:13 (NLT).

We must stand firm against the enemy. First, though, we must put our weapons into action. We must take up our shield of faith, the Word. We must put on our helmet of salvation from the Greek word sozo, meaning wholeness. We need to gird our feet with peace and gird our loins with truth. These are just some of our weapons against the enemy--faith, salvation, peace and truth. When we put them into place, we will win the battle against him.

A Place At The Table

@ 08:44 AM (27 months, 9 days ago)
I've heard many people say, "Well, I'm just an old sinner saved by grace."

You are either an old sinner, or you are saved by grace.  You cannot be both.

We are saved, if we have accepted Jesus into our hearts, by the grace of God.  We are in right-standing with God because of Jesus' shed blood.  We don't deserve it.  We didn't earn it.

Most of us still see ourselves as sinners.  We have never changed our image of ourselves on the inside.  Instead of seeing ourselves as God sees us.  As righteous, as sanctified, as worthy through the blood of His Son, as champions in life, we see ourselves as what we used to be--broke down, unworthy, undeserving, fearful, broke and disgusted.

We are like Mephibosheth.  He was King Saul's grandson and became lame after his grandfather and father were killed in battle.  Mephibosheth's nurse, fearing the new king's wrath for all that Saul had done to him (David), fled the palace and dropped Mephibosheth, causing Mephibosheth to be lame.

What Mephibosheth or the nurse didn't know was that David had a covenant with Mephibosheth's father, Jonathan.  One day, King David asked one of his servants, "Is there any of the house of Saul left?"

Mephibosheth was brought before King David.  David didn't see Mephibosheth's lame leg.  No, he saw his covenant with Mephibosheth's father, Jonathan.  David offered Mephibosheth a place in the palace, a seat at King David's table and all the land that Saul had owned.

Yet Mephibosheth didn't see himself as worthy or deserving.  He saw himself as a dead dog.

How many of us are like Mephibosheth?  We see ourselves as dead dogs not worthy to sit at the King's table, but God sees His covenant with His Son when He looks at us.  He doesn't see our faults, our sins, our mistakes.  He sees His Son's shed blood that puts us in right-standing with Him.

Now He is offering us a place at His table.  He is offering us a place in His Kingdom, but if we continue to see ourselves as dead dogs, old sinners saved by grace, then we will never experience all that God has in store for us.

What Are We Thinking?

@ 09:29 AM (27 months, 16 days ago)

When bad things happen in our lives, how many times do we blame God? How many times do we become bitter with Him over some situation that we think He should have handled differently, over things that we think we could have handled better.

Many times we want God to do things our way. We want Him to conform to our way of thinking, but the Bible doesn’t say that God will conform to our way of thinking. Instead it tells us to conform our thinking to God’s.

Our thinking is influenced by what we see on the news, what we read in the newspapers and magazines, what we hear in movies and video games.

Our thinking is more influenced by what Paris Hilton and Britney Spears think than what God thinks. By emulating Paris and Britney’s behavior, by buying their fashions, reading their gossip, purchasing a bag or shoes just because Paris or Britney wore the same kind on the red carpet, is making them our gods, our idols, whom we worship.

If we behave like Britney and Paris, so will the next generation. And if they emulate that behavior to the generation after them, and that generation emulates it to the next one, being like Britney and Paris will be the norm rather than the exception.

We need to steer our thinking away from what the world says is right. We have to conform ourselves--our thinking, our decisions and our actions--to look like God and His ways.

We cannot be perfect, but if we start emulating the behavior of God rather than the behaviors of men, we could be an influence on others rather than having them be an influence on us.

We have to take control of what we are seeing, what we are hearing, what we are letting into our hearts and minds. We have to watch how we are processing information.  If we are letting it influence us, we need to dump that activity--whether it be watching the news or reading newspapers or glancing at the headlines in the check-out stands.

We need to be an influence in this dark world. We need not to be influenced by the world around us. We must learn to practice thinking God’s way, then we will live a more fulfilling life while influencing our world with the light of Jesus Christ.

Our Every Day Lives

@ 08:04 AM (27 months, 17 days ago)

I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye. - Psalms 32:8.

This Scripture says God will instruct us.  It says He will teach us in the way we should go.  Why aren't we being led and taught like that?  I believe it is because we don't go to God.  We don't acknowledge Him in everything we do.  We have to ask Him to be a part of our every day lives not just our Sunday morning and Wednesday night lives.  We have to ask Him because He won't force Himself into our lives.

Believe Before You See

@ 08:30 AM (27 months, 18 days ago)

The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the LORD. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe. - John 20:25

Thomas refused to believe that Jesus had risen from the dead just on the word of some of the disciples.  He had to put his fingers in Jesus’ side and the scars in His hands.  How many times are we like that?  We have to see a miracle before we believe.  But according to God, we must believe in miracles before they will happen for us.
