Divide Your Investments
But divide your investments among many places, for you do not know what risks might lie ahead. - Ecclesiastes 11:1-2 (NLT)
The writer of Ecclesiastes tells us here to divide our investments, our time, among many things. Then if one thing fails, we will still have other interests. Many of us invest our time into one project until we become defined by it. For instance, if I put all my time and energy into writing, then I will identify myself as a writer. Perhaps I might think that is all I am. However, I should invest my time in a variety of other interests and develop other skills. Then if writing falls through, I will always have something to fall back on. In other words, we shouldn't put all our eggs in one basket.
